Has anyone had these test? I am nervous!
RedeemedHeart06-24-2003, 08:46 PMI am having three procedures done on Friday. I am really nervous! I have looked them up online and talked to my Dr. but I want first hand opinions if anyone has had them done. How did it go? Was it terribly painful..?
Thanks,
The procedures are:
Colposcopy, Endocervical Curettage (ECC) and Endometrial BiopsyWillow Star06-25-2003, 07:58 PMHi Redeemed,
I had the same tests basically but a cervical biopsy rather than an endometrial biopsy so I can't tell you too much about that part of it but it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be. Trust me...I was a nervous wreck before I went! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dizzy.gif It's basically like a pap but takes a little longer and they will freeze you if they take any biopsies. The biopsy was uncomfortable but not as bad as I thought it would be. Like a sharp pinch but not so bad. For me actually I found the worst part was having the speculum in for so long! That was really uncomfortable! I had some cramping after for a few hours and then light bleeding for a few days and that was it. Maybe some of the other ladies here can pass on more info than I have but I hope that I have eased your fears a bit. It was all done in about 20 minutes and I took nothing but an Advil after. Please don't worry...it's not really too bad. Just make sure you tell the doctor and the nurse how nervous you are. They will usually tell you step by step what's going on and will take the time to reassure you while doing it. Please post back once you've had it done and let us know how you're doing.
WillowRedeemedHeart06-25-2003, 10:16 PMThank you both for your replies!
I am glad to hear it wasn't as bad as you thought it was going to be.
I already told them I was going to be freaked out so they gave me some Xanax to take an hour before. Just enough so I can relax a bit. I hope it works; I have never taken Xanax before.
Thanks for your help; it really does make me feel better.

KathyHazelmoon2206-26-2003, 11:13 AMHI! I had the same thing done, twice now, and I can tell you don't worry about it a bit. It is just like the normal pap but longer and it is a little uncomfortable when they do the scraping and the biopsy, but it just feels like a bad cramp, not as painful as I imagined! It also depends on how often your doctor has done it and how gentle they are when they do your normal pap. My old doctor was really quick and rough so my first scraping, colpo and biopsy was uncomfortable, but my most recent one with a new doctor was not even half as bad, I barely felt it. So don't worry, it is just like having a longer pap and a period cramp! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gifRedeemedHeart06-26-2003, 02:05 PMOh! Thank you so much!
I have been so nervous today. This makes me feel so much better.
Blessings,
KathyRedeemedHeart06-27-2003, 10:35 PMWell, I had the tests done today. I would say on a scale of 1-10 the pain for me was a 6. It felt like early labor but not as bad as some months of cramps have been.
I am having an abdominal hysterectomy including my ovaries in about two weeks. I am nervous but glad they are getting it out of there before I end up with cancer somewhere else.
Thank you for the help and advice.

KathyHazelmoon2206-28-2003, 01:35 PMKathy,
I am glad to hear your procedure went ok, I will be thinking of you in your upcoming procedure. I would say the LEEP was about a 4 on a scale of 1-10 and the Colpo I had a year ago was probably a 8, so hopefully this time they got everything. It is so scary to think all this stuff is going on inside your body and you totally feel fine and have no clue. Thank god for early detection! You are in my prayers.
-TaraWillow Star06-30-2003, 08:20 AMHi Kathy,
I'm so glad that you got through the colpo okay and that it wasn't as bad as you thought. I am scheduled for a laser surgery on July 11th for CIN II and am not looking forward to that but the alternative of it leading to cancer is not acceptable. Wow a hysterectomy...it sounds like you caught things just in time. I felt the same as Hazelmoon, I was absolutely flabbergasted after years of normal paps to find out all of a sudden that things weren't normal. I had no idea there was anything wrong. When are you scheduled for your hysterectomy? Please let us know how you're doing and how it goes for you. If you need any support we're all here for you. I'll keep you in my prayers.
Willow
