here I go again
Lilli01-02-2004, 04:26 AMHi everyone,
I am certain I have another BCC right next to where I had one removed from the side of my nose a few years ago.
I had to have a skin graft. It healed rather well, although I never got colour back into the skin.
I aways wear foundation when I leave the house.
For the last few months I've had bleeding from a small red spot up next to my skin graft. This is right on the centre of my nose.
It now bleeds just about every day,so I no longer wipe it with a towel, have to let it dry by itself because the bleeding takes a while to stop.
Unfortunately my skin care specialists who was also a cosmetic surgeon has recently retired.
He did a very good job with my skin graft and I trusted his elderly but reliable hands.
I have booked into see two different specialists so I can feel
confident in who I choose.
I am so dreading the procedure.
Last time it was very painful and I felt embarrassed and down after it as everyone kept asking me what happened to my nose.
I finally told them I'd had a nose job done,I guess I did in a way :)
Cheers ShellySaraly01-02-2004, 07:46 PMSorry you have to go through that again! I had a BCC on my upper lip and one on my forehead that was removed with MOH's surgery. I've had more than 20 BCC's removed. In November I went to the doctor earlier than my usual 6 month check up because I thought I had BCC on my nose. It turned out to be benign but a dark freckle on my arm turned out to be an in situ melanoma. I was worried about a skin graft on my nose and wound up with a 5 inch scar on my arm ( which beats the alternative I should add!). I have stopped being embarrassed and now use the bandages, stitches and "cigar burns" to educate people to the dangers of skin cancer and sun exposure. It's really funny now because people at work run to me with every speck and spot they find and ask my opinion. I tell them what I think, give them a leaflet from my doctor's office and tell them to get screened.Lilli01-03-2004, 12:21 AMExcuse my ignorance Saraly but what is
MOH's surgery?.
I've so far had 4 BCC cut out,3 being on my face, anywhere else but my face, please!
LilliSaraly01-03-2004, 08:37 AMMOH's surgery is removel of a BCC layer by layer. The surgeon takes a small piece and you sit in the waiting room until it's biopsied. If there's still cancerous cells you go back into the surgery room and a tiny bit more is removed and biopsied. This continues until all borders are cancer free. It took three passes for mine to be clear and then instead of the cutting and cauterizing the wound is stitched. MOH's is done on the face so the round white scar isn't left.
