Ovarian Tumor--Central FL Gyn Onc Rec?

pfunk07-01-2004, 02:45 PMHi. I have quite a big dilemma. There are only three gynecologic oncologists within over a hundred miles of my home and they are all in practice together, thus, I cannot get a second opinion in my region.

The doctor thinks that he would really like to perform a salpingo-oopherectomy regardless of whether or not the tumor is malignant. The only way that it sounds as though the organs might be saved is if this truly is a very very complex follicular cyst, which he doubts that it is.

Thus, I wonder if anyone can recommend a gynecologic oncologist that is located in Central Florida or elsewhere in Florida if need be.

Please let me know if you have any ideas.csoar200407-01-2004, 06:31 PMContact the local chapter of the AMA (American Medical Association) and ask them to make a recommendation for you. They should be in the yellow pages or you could search the national office website for your local chapter information.

good luck!

I thought that the American Medical Association did not offer information that would indicate that one doctor is superior to another. I believe that it is considered at least unethical to do so. Thus, it would not be prudent to ask for such a recommendation from an organization such as this.

I want the best f---ing doctor on the face of the planet...period and they are not going to tell me who that is!csoar200407-02-2004, 10:15 PMPersonally, recommendations from my local chapters of the AMA have always been bang on the mark. If you don't want to contact your chapter however, try calling your local Planned Parenthood and ask THEM who they recommend for their patients needing a gyn oncologist (you can also contact the university of Florida's medical school (assuming they have one) and ask for their recommendation. Many of the leading physicians in any given specialty are associated with a medical school/teaching hospital because they are involved in research.) Lastly, contact your state chapter of the American Cancer Society and ask for THEIR recommendation for a gyn/oncologist.

good luck!

Actually, it is considered to be an unethical conflict of interest for the AMA or the ACS to give anykind of information the gives preference to one doctor over another so I would NEVER as a prudent patient take any recommendation from them at face value. The University of Florida does have a medical school but the University of Florida in general has a horrible national and state academic reputation.

You obviously don't understand the situation.csoar200407-03-2004, 02:40 PMLOL...I think I got it now...You want someone in FLORIDA whom you've never met and who's background/training/motivations you don't know to recommend the best f---ing gyn/oncologist in the state. :D

Sure hope you find what you're looking for, babe ;)pfunk07-04-2004, 04:17 PMLOL...I think I got it now...You want someone in FLORIDA whom you've never met and who's background/training/motivations you don't know to recommend the best f---ing gyn/oncologist in the state. :D

Don't be silly. I want a doctor or cancer patient to recommend the best f--ing gyn/onc in the country to me. It is completely unethical for the ACS or AMA to give recommendations AS THEY DO NOT KNOW THE REPUTATION OF THE DOCTORS OF WHOM THEY RECOMMEND or DID YOU NOT KNOW THAT???????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????????????? ????????? Boy, you are naive!csoar200407-04-2004, 06:45 PMMy mistake...thought you were limiting your search to Florida. One of the best gyn/oncologists in the country is Dr. Cornelius "Skip" Granai. I kid you not. Do a web search on 'im. ;)
