Post LEEP Problems
MEL198007-07-2004, 04:32 PMHi Ladies,
I had my Leep done 12 days ago and had no problems right afterwards. I was put on antibiotics as a precaution and ended the treatment last week. I have been experiencing heavy watery discharge, cramping and vaginal irritation the last few days. I don't know if it's because I have been inspecting myself more frequently or I am under extreme stress, but is this normal 12 days after the LEEP? My doctor said it's just the cervix healing itself but I am not totally convined. I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks!JLTJR07-07-2004, 06:28 PMHi Mel,
I suppose it depends on what you mean by "extreme". I didn't experience extreme anything. I had some watery discharge, slight cramping and slight irriation, and I do think that I was definitely paying more attention to what was going on at that time then I ever did before. The cramping was only for about 2-3 days afterward. Then I would guess about 10-14 days afterward (like you), I started having more of a watery discharge for a couple of days and then just twinges of irritation from time to time. Within 3-4 weeks afterward everything was back to normal. I also bled for nearly 30 days, some days more than others and gradually, everything was as before the procedure.
Is it possible the antibiotics are causing any of this? I know antibiotics can effect me like you are describing. My doctor did not give me any when I had it done.Verucah07-07-2004, 06:52 PMI have not had the LEEP, but just had my second opinion yesterday. My doctor has offered me 2 choices of treatment 1.) cryotherapy 2.) LEEP. He offered this information to me about the LEEP: The LEEP has a higher curative rate, but also a higher complication rate. He told me the procedure iitself takes no more than 5 minutes and usually is tolerated well. He did say that about 7-14 days after the procedure some patients experience marked bleeding which brings them back to the office to be cauterized. ( Because it can be heavy.) 2.) Cryotherapy: he said a 15-20 minute procedure which my cervix will be frozen for 3 minutes, thawed for 5 minutes, frozen again for 3 minutes. There is no bleeding, but a very watery discharge that can last up to 6 weeks and heavy at times. The curative rate is less, the complication rate is less. I chose the second option because I was worried about the LEEP. I don't want to scare you but only make you aware. I have read alot of info that speaks of how easy the LEEP is, but not much is really emphasized about what possible complications can arise. If you find anything out of the ordinary that worries you, I would contact your physician. My doc spent time to make sure I understood the complication rate. I hope this helps and everything works out for you...MEL198007-07-2004, 07:34 PMThanks for your responses. I don't know if it's in my head but the irritation is really bothering me. I keep checking down there which probably doesn't help! I hope anxiety is the culprit! I haven't exactly been taking this well at all.JLTJR07-07-2004, 08:16 PMIf it is really bothering you, I would go back to the doctor. Don't even think or worry about the doctor thinking you may be overreacting. Do you have a fever? This is a difficult time, I know, and the last thing you need to worry about is if you are healing from the procedure properly. I am just about 9 weeks post LEEP and I did nothing but think and worry like crazy until about 3 or 4 weeks ago when everything started getting back to normal, not to mention the 4 weeks of worry prior to having it done. Try to take it easy as much as possible. I know I noticed more of the effects when I did too much (work, stress, gardening, lifting, housework etc.) No doubt, it is a tough time but you will get better. Get checked out if you feel it is necessary, what is the worst that can happen?MEL198007-07-2004, 09:04 PMThanks! I have my follow up on friday so we'll see what the doc says. I don't have a fever and I am pretty sure it's mostly in my head. i feel like the irritation goes away when i stop thinking about it. I just stress out and worry that maybe it's herpes or something! HPV has been so difficult that I am extremely paranoid about other STDs now, even though i am in a relationship!Missfit5807-07-2004, 10:29 PMHi Ladies,

CherylMEL198007-08-2004, 07:48 AMThank you so much! I think that may be the culprit too. I finished the antibiotics on friday though.
