Worries about LEEP and ECC
MEL198006-28-2004, 06:52 PMIn March I had an ASCUS pap positive for high risk HPV. I had a colpo done in May that confirmed mild dysplasia. The doctor recommended Leep because the ECC came back pos for mild dysplasia as well. His gut instinct was that it was a false positive because the other areas might have contaminated the ECC. Nonetheless they did the LEEP on Friday. I am so scared right now about hysterectomy--or am I jumping the gun? I don't know anyone that has gone through this so I would love any helpful advice or encouragement. Thanks.ti_197207-07-2004, 07:49 PMIn March I had an ASCUS pap positive for high risk HPV. Hi, Mel, how was results of your cone biopsy? I'm having the same problem , but still not decided have a LEEp or not.MEL198007-07-2004, 08:08 PMHi. I didn't have a cone biopsy. I had a LEEP done and I'll get the results back on Friday! WHat are you going through?ti_197207-07-2004, 08:20 PMHi, Mel.
My biopsy result shows CIN-1 and ECC results shows some fragments of CIN-1,
so doctor told me I need a cone LEEP, not jsyt a LEEP.
I'd like to try any natural treatments before going for a LEEP, but doctor scared me said that it maybe something more serious were there.
So I still have my LEEP schedled next week, but I still not desided.
I'm 31, no kids..and I read a lot about problems with pregnancy after LEEP..
Hi. I didn't have a cone biopsy. I had a LEEP done and I'll get the results back on Friday! WHat are you going through?MEL198007-07-2004, 08:30 PMI had the exact same thing. The ECC has a very high false positive rate according to my doctor because if there is dysplasia close to the OS (canal) it can contaminate the ecc very easily. I did a cone leep as well and it was definitely the best decision for me. You don't want to wait this out especially if there is a posibility of CIN in the canal.
Did your doctor mention the possibility of a false positive to you? Either way I would get it done. The LEEP has really no bearing on child birth. The worst case scenario would be to have the cervix stitched later on in pregancy and be put on bed rest. Was this your first abnormal pap?Verucah07-07-2004, 11:00 PMMel,
I have a couple of questions for you. You said that you had CIN I. Why do you need the LEEP? Are you in the high-risk HPV? Was cryotherapy offered to you? I am 33 with 3 kids. I just had my second opinion yesterday and my Doctor discussed in length the pros and cons of the LEEP. While he said that it is the treatment of choice these days, it isn't without risk or possible complications. He said bleeding being the main risk, but also for a woman hoping to conceive, he would recommend a more conservative approach because it can cause problems with the cervix. (Provided you are in the mild/moderate stage) If you are on the fence at all about this you should get a second opinion. I did after my experience with my first Doctor. You should feel comfortable and informed, and know all the good and bad of every procedure...Good luck!MEL198007-08-2004, 07:46 AMHi,
I had to have LEEP because my ECC biopsy came back positive with CIN I (mild dysplasia). Even though it was most likely to be a false positive from contamination from the other affected areas, LEEP cone was the only option to be safe. I am only 23 w/ no kids so I didn't want to take any risks of having dysplasia up in the canal. Good luck to you!ti_197207-08-2004, 09:33 AMMel, I have exatly the same. CIN-1 and ECC positive - and It maybe just false positive as in your case. And doctor told me about LEEP to check it. But I still think it is too ricky procedure .
Please, post here results from your LEEp. I'll have appt. with my doctor next Monday, so I still want to discuss with him alternatives to the LEEP.
How long time was before you found out about you dysplasia and a LEEP ??

I am only 23 w/ no kids so I didn't want to take any risks of having dysplasia up in the canal. Good luck to you!MEL198007-08-2004, 10:46 AMI will post my results after my appt tomorrow. The LEEP is a very safe procedure and one leep will have zero affect on your ability to children in the future. If you don't get the abnormal cells out, that will have more of a bearing on your ability to have kids because if it gets to the cancer stage you will have to get a hysterectomy.
I had an ascus pap in March and my biopsy in May read cin I in all 3 areas, including the ECC. I had the LEEP done 2 weeks ago.ti_197207-08-2004, 11:22 AMThanks, Mel, looks like we both have the same situation :-)
Knowing that someone are having the same treatments helps me a lot.
I had may abnormal Pap in May, biopsy in June and Leep is scheduled for next week.
Will wait for your osting with LEEp results.
Have a great day

was this your first abnormal pap? is the doctor pushing LEEP for you?ti_197207-08-2004, 05:32 PMMel, I had 2 abnormal pap's before, but each time biopsy was negative, said-no any dysplosia found. Then each time in 6 month I had normal Pap. So last summer I had abnormal Pap, then again normal in November, and this year, in my 6 month check-in I had again abnormal Pap and this time biopsy shows
CIN-1.
I didn't speak with the same doctor -I made an appointment-but they canceled it-doctor was busy with something. He told me about LEEP as it's the only way for me, I didn't know too much about it. Now, when I read a lot in Internet, spoke with a naturopathic doctor, I see- it might be an alternative.
I had a second oppinion app. yestarday-but new doctor didn't do any colpo, just took a look at my biopsy tests and said , if CIN-1 in the ECC biopy-I needed a LEEP. Hard to argue with him on it.
:-)
So I must decide myself-go for a LEEP now or wait 3 months, tried suppliments and so on, and then do Pap and biopsy again..

Great news! I just got back from my post leep follow up and my ECC came back negative—so it was a false positive! I also had clear margins!
