7year old-ear infections,anemia, and growing pains

tagawgrag04-07-2005, 08:23 PMI am getting frustrated. I had to take my child to the Dr for the 3rd time in 6 weeks. The first time we went it was because of growing pains. The Dr. ran a CBC and tested for Lyme and arthritis.- He had neither. He just had mild anemia.(He took a multi-vitamin and eats pretty wll) While checking him she also discovered he had an ear infection.
He now takes iron supplements.(He has another blood test at the end of April) However he still has bone pains and now frequent headaches. He also has allergies. The other night he could not walk because his ankle hurt so badly(he told me he broke it-and was crying). Today along with a new ear infection he had a headache and neck and shoulder pain. He did not even want a back rub! He asked me to take him to the hospital. I called the ped-she said to see how he responded to the motrin(she had just seen him this am)He took a three hour nap. Now the neck and shoulder pain has returned.
The Dr does not seem concerned. Should I be? I am wondering if this is psychological. Otherwise he is a pretty active happy boy. Ugh-thanks for letting me ramble. I think I just need more people to tell me not to worry. Thank you and take careBambie198404-08-2005, 01:43 PMwhen i first started reading the post i didn't think it was anything serious. i have anemia and allergies to and get a lot of muscle cramps and body aches for no reason. this is because of being anemic i assume. however the pains in his neck and shoulder sound serious. did you have him checked for meningitis? pain in that area is one of the first signs or so I'm toldsharon72804-27-2005, 07:09 PM:bouncing: Hi- my 5 yr old has the same symptoms! I have been on 3 other health boards, posting messages and looking for anyone with the same thing!!! My son has had Asthma, but not allergic to anything. He has been sick since November ,it wasn't until February that they realized he had mono. sometime in the past. Anyway, he was also diagnosed anemic. He also has been complaing of pains, he would almost scream if you picked him up under the arms, dr. said from swollen lymphs?!, He climbs the small ladder up to the top bunk of his bunk beds with difficulty and hollering out in pain. After he gets in the bed and lays down he seems to be ok. He has night sweats, I can go in his room and his head is soaking wet, I flip his pillow and lower the thermostat. When I called the doctor to tell him that he was still complaining of pain in his right knee mostly, this am was his wrists, he had the nurse call me and tell me, not to worry but if it got red and swelled up to call back  . They are supposed to recheck his bloodwork in May. I just wish I could find a childrens hospital that would check him out completley until he was well. Sharonoeee05-22-2005, 03:39 AMHi. Your son needs to see a pediatric rheumatologist. I suggest you visit Dr. Lehman's site...www. goldscout.com......he could have lupus or some other autoimmune disorder. It is not psychological!!!! I developed lupus when I was fifteen....it is very very painful and invisible to the naked eye...I looked completely healthy...only when the disease progressed did my joints turn bright red and swell.....you need to get your son's ANA tested pronto...being in mass amoutns of pain is terrible...he needs to be properly medicated so that he can be comfortable. I don't know where you live but Dr. Lehman at the New York Hospital for Special Surgery is who you want to see. Good luck!!!
